THE
IMMACULATE HEART AUXILIARY
The Immaculate Heart Auxiliary was established in 1968 to assist
the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Founder President Gertrude
Ingli Forthmann, IHC ’44, inaugurated the organization with these words:
“We were formed to give service, to help re-build, to contribute the
works of our hearts and our hands to the survival of Sisters of the
Immaculate Heart of Mary. If we can help this community so close to our
hearts to live and grow strong, our example will encourage
others.”
From a humble beginning with eight devoted members, the Auxiliary
has grown to a dynamic membership of nearly 500 with an associate
membership over 2000. Fifty active members comprise the Broad of
Directors, a group which meets monthly at the Waverly Drive
Motherhouse.
The Immaculate Heart Auxiliary helps supports the Sisters
morally, spiritually, and financially. It promotes several programs
involving the surrounding communities – from the Days of Recollection
for the laity to the Prayer Days for various youth programs. It also
schedules social functions, foremost of which are Immaculate Heart class
reunions on the Motherhouse grounds.
The Auxiliary’s most successful venture, by far, is
its annual Benefit Luncheon. Members and friends gather each year to
renew friendships, meet with former teachers, and share a delightful
afternoon in the Immaculate Heart spirit.
